The Fort Irwin Marina Commitment to Clean Marine Eco-Rating
Fort Irwin Marina is dedicated to the Clean Marine Eco-Rating Program because we are committed to protecting Ontario’s waterways and ensuring that we are doing our part to preserve our natural resources. As a marina, we recognize the impact that recreational boating activities can have on the environment, and we want to ensure that we are following best practices to reduce and prevent water, air, and land pollution.
The Clean Marine Eco-Rating Program: An overview
For the past 20 years, the Clean Marine Eco-Rating Program has been the world's leading environmental "Best Management Practices" program for marinas, boat dealers, yacht clubs, and marine businesses. More than 300 businesses have participated in the program since its inception in 1995, making it the most successful and widely adopted program of its kind.
The assessment process and Eco-Rating system
As a participant in the program, Fort Irwin Marina undergoes an independent third-party assessment consisting of 220 points. The scores from this assessment are used to generate an Eco-Rating system, with one to five Green Anchors, and Gold, Diamond, and Platinum as the highest achievements. Re-assessments are mandatory every 3 years.
Environmental practices covered by the program: Pollution prevention and habitat protection
The Clean Marine Eco-Rating Program covers a wide range of environmental practices, including:
- Pollution prevention: Fort Irwin Marina takes steps to prevent fuel and oil spills, properly dispose of hazardous waste, and minimize water pollution.
- Habitat and species protection: We make efforts to minimize our impact on wildlife and their habitats.
- Energy conservation: We strive to conserve energy by using energy-efficient lighting and appliances, and by promoting responsible energy consumption.
- Water conservation: We make efforts to conserve water by reducing consumption and promoting responsible water usage.
- Waste reduction and recycling: We reduce waste by implementing recycling programs and using eco-friendly products whenever possible.
- Education and awareness: We educate our staff and customers about the importance of environmental stewardship and provide information on best practices for reducing environmental impact.
